Situated amongst one of Sydney’s most prominent heritage suburbs, a pivotal design objective was to maintain and enhance the visual streetscape through the preservation of heritage fabric and character of the original dwelling.
Our carefully considered approach involved minimal changes to the front façade in order to achieve a non-disruptive and consistent look to the existing streetscape, along with a thoroughly executed internal planning approach to reinstate the original character of a semi-detached workers cottage.
The key design principal of the rear extension is to capture all the necessary requirements for a modern living family home without disrupting the heritage values. Imperative to the brief, achieving a cohesive balance between old and new was at the forefront of the client’s desires. Using the footprint and form of the existing dwelling as our inspiration, the rear addition achieves a modern and seamless experience both internally and externally, whereby heritage characteristics are adopted throughout the home.
