Located in one of the most nature-inspired regions in Serbia, Fruška Gora also entails a rich history of geographical landform transformations. Once an island in the middle of the Pannonian Sea, now stands an endless treasure of national parks, natural springs, and biological diversity.
Drawing inspiration from the region’s historical and present importance, our design approach was carefully considered across the entire site through both the landscape design and overall built form. The proposed in-ground level changes across the site provide an opportunity to preserve the historical significance of ‘island’ and ‘sea’, as well as accentuate the region’s present context of ‘mountains’ and ‘springs’. The built form – symbolising the peak of the mountain, was carefully orientated and positioned across the large site, which proved pivotal in achieving maximum sustainability throughout the home, whilst minimising the overall baulk to ensure a non-intrusive outcome to the external landscape and amenities.
A cohesive proposal of neutral colours and finishes both externally and internally pay tribute to the surrounding context, whilst the subtle introduction of warm timber features complements the flourishing oak woods in the region’s national parklands.
